Scholarship
Information
Outstanding
Students of America is a national organization dedicated to providing
high school seniors with scholarships. The scholarships are $1000.00 each
and are payable to the college of the students choice. Outstanding
Students of America is seeking a well rounded, intelligent student as
a recipient. The focus of the scholarship committee will be the students
who are participative in community/school involvement and maintain a GPA
of 3.0 or above. The Community Foundation of West Alabama, a non profit
organization, administers the disbursement of the scholarship funds. The
scholarship process consists of the following procedures:
1.Scholarship
applications must be postmarked by October 10 of each year. If
you are a current senior the application is postmarked October
10 prior to your graduation. Scholarships are not available after
high school graduation.
2. Applications must be filled out completely and signed
by student and teacher. Incomplete applications will be voided.
3. There is absolutely no fee association with this
scholarship.
4. Once applications are received they are examined
for accuracy and completeness. Students must submit a long self addressed
envelope with application. The envelope is needed to send a reply in
November indicating whether the student has been selected as an Outstanding
Student of America and their status in the scholarship process.
5. The reason a long stamped self addressed envelope
is required is because all proceeds are donated back to students by
way of scholarships. The envelope helps contain cost so more funds are
available to students.
6. If a student is selected as a semi-finalist they
will be notified in January of each year. Only students achieving semi-finalist
status will be notified.
7. The semi-finalist applications are forwarded to
prestigious universities throughout the US to select the winners. Current
and past universities participating in the selection of the winners
include: Ohio State, Penn State, Texas A & M, University of Alabama,
Xavier University, Maryville College, University of Minnesota, University
of Chicago, and others.
8. Winners will be notified in February by telephone.
We contact each winner and their parents. Once each student has been
notified we follow up with certified written correspondence.
9. Scholarships are paid out during the month of July.
10. Applicants meeting the criteria of an Outstanding
Student of America will be featured in a publication highlighting
only those students, the scholarship semi-finalist and scholarship winners.
Unlike other publication, OSA features only 4 students per page with
their biography beneath their pictures.
11. 100% of all net proceeds from the publication are
given back to students by way of scholarships. We are manned primarily
by volunteers thus making every effort to contain cost so we will have
more funds for scholarships.
12. If you have questions, please refer to the Frequently
Ask Questions section first. If your question is not addressed here
you can contact us at (205) 344-6322.
13. Application may be printed and copied if necessary
from our home page by pressing the application button.
